ARTIST STATEMENT:

My practice is focused on creating work that expresses concerns and points of view of our surroundings and culture.  My intent is to capture the human form figuratively (and sometimes abstractly) in manners that suggest the dynamics of rhythm and movement.  My approach is to document the era I n which we live by absorbing, reacting, and the creating work that  addresses events, changes or subtitles in our social and cultural settings.  The themes expressed in my art are diverse and can scrutinize or comment socially.  I have become a much more environmentally conscientious artist than in my past practice.  I am now employing more recycled, repurposed and natural materials to create and enhance certain pieces.  I am excited to employ the use of soils to create tonal values or accent pigments in my newer works. Soils, in addition to creating a tone or color on the paper or canvas also relates to particular geographic area and people when being worked into the surface of the piece.
