ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Alyshia Williams was born and raised in the heart of Detroit, a city known for its rich history, culture, and the resilience of its people. From an early age, Alyshia showed an innate gift for art. Her passion was sparked by her father, a man whose love for creativity was contagious. He not only encouraged her artistic spirit but also became her first teacher, patiently guiding her hands as she learned to draw. His lessons were more than just technical skills; they were lessons in seeing the world through a different lens—one that appreciated the beauty in both the ordinary and extraordinary.
Growing up, Alyshia was surrounded by the grit and vibrancy of Detroit. The city itself became a canvas, with its rich urban landscapes, the sound of music in the streets, and the stories that echoed from the corners of every neighborhood. This environment instilled in her a deep appreciation for the ways art could capture a moment, tell a story, or convey emotion. But life was not always easy for Alyshia. At the age pf 17, she experienced the loss of her father, a heartbreak that shaped much of her life. The loss was a profound challenge, one that left her grappling with grief and uncertainty, yet also became the source of much of her strength.
Despite the hardships, Alyshia chose to channel her pain and sorrow into her art, using it as a medium to explore her emotions and heal. As she honed her craft, she found solace in the act of creation, each brushstroke and sketch serving as a reminder of her resilience. It was through art that she discovered her own voice, a voice that was uniquely hers, born of both joy and hardship.
Now 25 years old, Alyshia stands at the crossroads of her artistic journey, still exploring the vast expanse of possibilities in the art world. As a freelance artist, she has already embraced the freedom and challenges of carving out her own path. While she may not yet know exactly where this path will lead, one thing is certain: Alyshia is determined to find her place in the world of art. She is constantly evolving, learning, and experimenting with new techniques and mediums.
One of the most striking qualities of Alyshia’s work is the sense of vibrancy and hope that flows through it. Despite the adversity she has faced, her art is a celebration of life. She sees beauty where others might see only darkness, finding light in the most unexpected places. Her pieces are not just expressions of technique—they are expressions of her worldview, one that is full of color, emotion, and the belief that there is always hope to be found.
Alyshia’s journey is a testament to the power of art to heal and transform. It is also a reminder that even in the face of loss, hardship, and uncertainty, there is always a way forward. As she continues to grow as an artist, Alyshia remains open to the endless possibilities that await her. She knows that her journey is far from over and that the path ahead is one of discovery, growth, and endless creation. And with every new canvas, sketch, and stroke, Alyshia Williams brings the world a little closer to the hope and vibrancy that live within her heart.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to showcase my perspective on life through my work for the first time. pointFIVE is a self-portrait of sorts, representing how I see myself and the world around me. It is also my favorite perspective to take photos with on my phone. I chose bright, fun colors to give the piece a lively, playful vibe. My hope is that when people view it, they’ll feel a sense of fun and joy.
Simply living life is not for the weak. However, I want to remind others that there’s always room for color, happiness, and light. I want my art to create an emotional connection and invite people to pause, smile, and appreciate the simple joy in life. pointFIVE is not just about how it looks, but about the feeling it gives—a celebration of creativity and the beauty in the world around us.
