Through the use of generic objects, my work sparks humor and light-hearted interpretations. It functions as comic relief for the passer-by or person not interested in deeply analyzing. Digging further into the pieces, individual viewers find fictitious hierarchies that are rooted in social-economic constructs and psychological narratives. They become the puppet master, spiraling through a dream-like world outside of their reality.

Born in New Jersey, Victoria Shaheen moved to Washington, DC in 2007 to attend the Corcoran College Of Art + Design. Following the receipt of her Bachelors of Fine Art, she attended the Cranbrook Academy of Art where she studied industrial ceramic processes and the theories of absurdity and humor, and their presence in pop culture. Shaheen graduated from Cranbrook in 2013 and continued her studies of industrial making at Pewabic Pottery in downtown Detroit. She has exhibited work locally and nationally at galleries including the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, WI; Morton Fine Art in Washington, DC; Corcoran Gallery of Art also in Washington, DC; and Holding House in Detroit, MI. Shaheen has taught full time at Wayne State Art Department and now works as the fabrication manager at Greenwich House Pottery while continuing her research of industrial value, nonsensical humor, and formal sculpture.
