Artist: William Irving Singer
Untitled (Mug) 6, 2016
Acrylic on canvas
14" x 11.25

This collection of black acrylic paintings on raw canvas embraces a reoccurring thematic focus in Singer's work, the exploration of portraiture as a grounds for painterly abstraction.  Part rorschach inkblot test, both in process and presentation, the paintings were composed through gestural mark making while also being pressed and printed in consecutive fashion to create unanticipated variations. A cast of characters, expressionistic portraits that serve as receptacles of gestural form and cathartic play.
