Rebecca Ripple was born and raised on Long Island. She has a BFA from Alfred University and MFA from Yale School of Art. She makes sculptures that look at our ontological understanding of a ‘self’ or a private consciousness in an increasingly connected existence. Language, physical gestures, and materials are signifiers employed to incite mental play or bodily engagement. She is Artist-in-Residence and Head of the Sculpture Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She has exhibited throughout the United States and Italy at venues including: LAX (July 2022), Klowden Mann Gallery in Los Angeles (represented by until it closed in 2021) and Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena; residency and installation at House of Poetics on Govenors Island in NYC; C.O.L.A 20 at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery; Los Angeles Museum of Art; Pasadena Museum of California Art; Amelia Museum of Archeology in Italy; the Brewery Project in Los Angeles; the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena; Upfor Gallery and Tilt Gallery in Portland; LAX Expo; Rosamund Felsen Gallery and 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA; Brand Art Center in Glendale, CA ; Center for the Arts Eagle Rock, CA; Columbia College Art Gallery in Chicago; Cabrini Gallery at Woodbury University in Los Angeles; and many others. Her work has been featured in Sculpture Magazine, and reviewed in LA Weekly, Huffington Post, ArtScene, Artillery, Chicago Tribune, and American Craft. She attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and has received multiple awards including a C.O.L.A. (City of Los Angeles Individual Fellowship) and a Nathan O. Freedman Endowment for Exceptional Creative Accomplishments Award, Arts Midwest and Illinois Arts Council fellowships, and a fellowship and residency at the Bemis Foundation.
