"William first got a loom back in 2002 and immediately started weaving with beads and thread. The process created a gridlike configuration and so he started integrating patterns like stripes and color blocking. He refined the patterns into a symbolic language. Stripes represent his obsessive regimented personality."
New York-based artists and brothers Steven and William Ladd have collaborated on artworks ranging from the minuscule to the massive for over two decades. Early works of haute-couture handbags and jewelry inspired their signature boxes that became towers, sparking performances that later evolved into large installations. Their artwork is often intricately crafted of textiles and beadwork and incorporates stories of their childhood and journey through life.
